Welcome to Leddy Center's Information (aka FAQs) Page!

Leddy Center produced its first show in July of 1975 as the Epping Community Church Players, in order to raise money to buy the oil needed for the church to hold their services in the sanctuary instead of in the basement of the church.  Elaine Gatchell was the choir director of the Epping Community Church then (and now) and continued to produce and direct one show each year to raise money not only for the church but for many organizations within the town such as the Ambulance Fund, and the Epping Fire Department.  The theater group also was the largest contributor in the state of New Hampshire to Heifer Project International, a non-profit organization that sends animals to hungry people all over the world where they reproduce and their owners share the offspring with neighbors.  The name of the players changed when the group was gifted the permanent use of the second floor in the old Leddy Brothers building in 1984, and began expanding its offerings to include more productions, a concert series, classes and private lessons in the arts, as well as bringing arts assembly programs to schools in the greater area.  The first production in the new space was “My Fair Lady”, held in July of 1985.  July of 2008 marks Leddy Center's 34th year producing quality shows and concerts in southeastern New Hampshire!

Where in the world are you?

EPPING, NH

Epping, New Hampshire, is located at one of the busiest intersections in New Hampshire - the intersection of Route 101 (which runs east to west from Hampton Beach on the Atlantic Ocean to the western-most part of our fair state) and Route 125 (which runs north to south from Rochester to Plaistow and on into Haverhill, MA and beyond).  Epping, a small town of 6,000 residents, is jokingly called "the center of the universe" - but there is a very good reason for that title!  Epping used to be a booming town, and was serviced by trains running from the north, south, east, AND west.  The downtown area, where we are located, featured fine jewelry and fur stores in addition to the Leddy Brothers mercantile which is now our lobby and theater.

DIRECTIONS

From 101 East or West, travel to Exit 7.  At the bottom of the exit, travel North on Route 125 for 1 mile, then take a left (West) on Route 27 for 1/2 mile, then left on Main Street.  We are on your left as you make the corner.

From 125 North or South, travel to Route 27, then travel West on Route 27 for 1/2 mile, then take a left onto Main Street.  We are on your left as you make the corner.

From 95 North or South, travel to Exit 2, then take Route 101 West to Exit 7.  At the bottom of the exit, take a right on 125 North for 1 mile, then take a left on Route 27 and travel 1/2 mile, then take a left on Main Street and we're on your left.

From 93 North or South, travel to Route 101, and then travel Route 101 East to Exit 7.  At the bottom of the exit, take a left on 125 North for 1 mile, then take a left on Route 27 and travel 1/2 mile, then take a left on Main Street and we're on your left.

What is your theater like?

LEDDY THEATER

Our pride and joy is an arena-style (3/4-round) theater on the second floor of the 150+ year old Leddy Brothers building on Main Street in downtown Epping, NH.  Once a movie theater, with all the seats facing a screen on the east wall, it was abandoned for over 10 years before it was acquired by the Gustavsons and offered for Leddy Center's use.  It took a huge volunteer effort, spearheaded by Bruce and Elaine Gatchell, to turn it into the intimate, climate-controlled, ever-evolving environment which we - and you! - now enjoy.

This is the actual seating plan for our theater.

Where can we eat before or after the show?

RESTAURANTS

  •      Here in town, about 1 minute north of us on Route 125, you'll find Telly's Restaurant & Pizzeria.  Newly remodeled, Telly's boasts a deliciously varied menu, lengthy wine list, and a high-tech sports bar in an upscale yet family-friendly decor.  They also offer take-out.  603-679-8225.

  •      Just one mile up the road, we have family-friendly McDonald's at the intersection of Routes 101 and 125.  The restaurant boasts indoor and outdoor dining areas.

  •      Right next door to us here on Main Street is Lucky Fortune, Epping's newest restaurant.  Situated in a beautifully renovated one-story Victorian building which was once a general store (the restaurant features gorgeous original woodwork), Lucky Fortune, open until 10:00pm weeknights and 11:00pm weekends, boasts a wonderfully varied (and, we can testify, very tasty!) Chinese menu for take-out or eat-in.  603-679-2588.

  •      If you're looking for fresh pizza, subs, salads, and the like, we recommend Epping House of Pizza (right across the street from us on Route 27).  In addition to a wide selection of soft drinks, beer (on tap!) is available by the mug or pitcher.  603-679-2477.

  •      For a fun, diner-style dining experience (including wise-cracking wait-staff!), try Bessie's Lunch, located 2 miles south of Route 101 on Route 125 in Brentwood.

  •      If you head east to historic Exeter, you'll find the charming Tavern at River's Edge downtown on Water Street.  Reservations are recommended by calling 603-772-7393.
