for the Performing Arts - Epping, New Hampshire
by local, aspiring playwright
January 16 - 25, 2015
Directed By Donald Tongue
Donald Tongue (playwright/director) is a New England playwright with four published plays to his credit. His play Void, which has received over a dozen productions, has been performed in Boston and Los Angeles. School Portrait Monologues was produced in New Zealand, and Fishbowl was part of the 2010 short play festival in New York City at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre, where it was held over for an extended run. Donald’s play about the poet Robert Frost, My Neighbor, the Poet, was commissioned and produced by theatre KAPOW. Donald is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America. On behalf of all who are involved in this production, it is with great pleasure that we present this world premier of Scene Changes.
Deirdre Hickok Bridge (Samantha Wheelwright) is thrilled to bring another of Donald Tongue's plays to life! She has been involved in regional and community theatre for many years, but after taking a decade off, has only recently appeared on the New Hampshire stage. In the past two years she has performed with Actorsingers, The Community Players of Concord, New Theatre Works, here at The Leddy Center, and, most recently, theatre KAPOW's 24 Hour Play Festival. She is particularly proud that five of her last six projects were new works by local playwrights. When not on stage, Deirdre specializes in standup comedy in her kitchen where she works in Debris Management in her children's Beck and Call department. She gives huge thanks to her children and her husband John for supporting her love of the stage. Thank you for supporting local theatre!
John Rodgers (Matthew Simmons) has been involved in many Southern NH productions over the years, and is thrilled to be participating in this wonderful show. John most recently appeared in his college’s production of “Front”, and is currently working with Derry’s Hood Middle School, and Kids Coop Theatre, to bring Thoroughly Modern Millie and Willy Wonka to life. He would like to thank the talented script writer and director, Donald Tongue for giving him the opportunity to participate in his first two person show, and also his lovely scene partner Deirdre. Enjoy the performance!
The story revolves around Samantha Wheelwright, (played by Deirdre Bridge) legendary ex-Brit, star of stage and film, whose career is faltering, and who finds herself performing the role of Mrs. Cratchit, in a traveling production of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The actor playing Bob Cratchit has suddenly taken ill and the producer, much to the dismay of Ms. Wheelwright, is forced to hire a much younger, inexperienced, local actor, Matthew Simmons (played by John Rodgers). This romantic dramedy shows what happens when youthful star-struck enthusiasm slams headlong into mid-life realism and cynicism. They both grow and learn from the encounter and, in the end, the world seems different—the scene changes.
